Maybe don’t try to catch a Zubat while driving, folks.
A 28-year-old man crashed his car into a tree on Tuesday night in Auburn, New York, according to The Citizen. He was apparently distracted while playing Pokémon Go, local police said.
The crash crumpled the front of the car. The driver was not seriously injured and was “extremely lucky,” said Auburn Police Chief Shawn Butler.
In the wake of the crash, the Auburn Police Department released a list of reminders to those playing Pokémon Go while on the go.
The sadly necessary guidelines are:
1. Do not use the application when you are operating a motor vehicle or bicycle.
2. Do not trespass on private property when trying to “catch” a Pokemon.
3. Be aware of your surroundings when walking and do not stare down at your phone not knowing hazards around you, like roadways, drop-offs, waterways, etc.
4. Use caution when sharing your location as strangers can see your location information.
5. Travel in groups in public/well-lit locations.
The state Department of Motor Vehicles had already issued its own warning to individuals playing the popular game.
New York officials aren’t the only ones worried about a distracted public. The Texas A&M University police sent out these tweets on Tuesday:

The moral here? Keep the Pokémon Go-ing out of the driver’s seat and off the streets.
