Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, 26, was arrested for assault on Sunday in East Lansing, Michigan, MLive.com reported on Monday.
Lt. Scott Wrigglesworth, the public information officer for the East Lansing Police Department, told The Huffington Post over the phone that the department would not identify the NBA player by name until after he was arraigned, but said the player had been released after posting bond. Green must return to East Lansing within 10 days for his arraignment.
In a statement, the Warriors said the team was “aware” of the situation but little else. “At this point, we are collecting information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation,” the statement said.
Green, a Michigan native who once starred on Michigan State’s men’s basketball team, was a pivotal member of the Warriors’ 2015 title run and is slated to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics next month as a member of the U.S. men’s basketball team.
Green was unavailable for comment on Monday morning, per MLive.com. When reached for comment by USA Today Sports’ Sam Amick, USA Basketball Director Jerry Colangelo declined to comment.
Team USA head Jerry Colangelo was not aware of the Draymond Green arrest for assault reported by @mlive - no comment until he learns more.
