“We’re just devastated,” his mother, Amy Hale, told The Muncie Star Press.
“It’s very trying. I’ve got to believe. Keep up the faith. Keep the prayers coming,” she added to WISH. “I feel my child needs me and I can’t get to him.”
The airman’s father, Lance Hale, and an uncle arrived in Italy on Friday as the search being conducted by U.S. Air Force personnel, local law enforcement officers and volunteers continued.
Air Force officials have declined to speculated on the circumstances surrounding Hale’s disappearance, reports Stars and Stripes. They issued an all-points bulletin to appeal for information as to his whereabouts.
“Based on where the search is occurring, law enforcement officials believe he’s still in the area,” said Capt. Michael Hertzog II, spokesman for 31st Fighter Wing. “The APB is being put out in the hope that if he isn’t in the area, he’ll still be identified.” According to the Air Force Times, Hale has been in the Air Force for six years and previously served in Afghanistan.
