Caitlyn Jenner Shifts Blame To Paparazzi For Fatal 2015 Car Wreck

To be a a Kardashian/Jenner is to be hounded by paparazzi wherever you go, that we know. But now Caitlyn Jenner has filed a suit against photogs who she says are at least partly responsible for a fatal multi-car crash in Malibu, California, last February.

In court documents obtained by People, Jenner claims that a group of paparazzi ― referred to as “Stalker Defendants” in the suit ― were harassing her on the day of the accident that lead to the death of one Kim Howe.

“As Jenner was driving her vehicle consistent with all laws and speed limits, the Stalker Defendants, and others acting in concert with them, continuously, negligently, and recklessly operated their vehicles, tracking Jenner,” the lawsuit reads.

The “I Am Cait” star is asking that the paparazzi share the burden of legal and financial liability, as she has yet to resolve one remaining lawsuit filed by the driver of the Hummer that hit Howe.

“As a direct consequence and result of this stalking, harassing and distracting conduct, [Jenner] was visually distracted, and the negligence and reckless conduct of the Stalker Defendants did contribute to the cause of an accident where seconds and split seconds mattered,” the court documents continue.

In December Jenner settled the first of three lawsuits filed against her, reaching an an agreement with Jessica Steindorff, who for unknown reasons stopped in front of Howe’s vehicle on the day of the accident. Two months later, a suit against Jenner filed by the victim’s adult stepchildren was dismissed.

In September, the Los Angeles County District Attorney decided not to pursue charges of vehicular manslaughter for her involvement in the incident, but the incident has clearly weighed heavily on Jenner’s conscience in the intervening months.

After the accident, she released a statement to the press, calling the crash devastating tragedy.”

“My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident,” the statement read. “It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine that this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible.”
